Cognitive Preservation, Metabolic Brain Restoration, and a More Sophisticated Approach to Long-Term Brain Health

|

For many people, the first signs are subtle. A growing reliance on lists.

More mental fatigue after stress or poor sleep.

Difficulty retrieving words under pressure.
Reduced clarity late in the day.

The quiet realization that remaining mentally sharp and organized now requires more effort than it once did.

You're not imagining this

There's a Moment that Quietly Unfolds in Many Lives

and It occurs long before anyone uses the word dementia

For many people, the first signs are subtle.

A growing reliance on lists. More mental fatigue after stress or poor sleep. Difficulty retrieving words under pressure. Reduced clarity late in the day. The quiet realization that remaining mentally sharp and organized now requires more effort than it once did.

Perhaps you are watching  yourself or someone you love begin to change in ways that are difficult to fully explain — and increasingly difficult to ignore.

Most healthcare systems are not designed to address this
middle territory. Not advanced dementia. Not crisis. But the years before.

The years when intelligent, highly functioning people begin
sensing that something is shifting long before it becomes obvious enough to
diagnose.

Touchpoints180 BrainGuard Premier was created specifically for this space.

Not as a memory clinic. Not as a wellness program. And not as a collection of trendy interventions layered onto fear.

But as a physician-led cognitive preservation and metabolic brain restoration program designed for adults and families seeking a more thoughtful, medically sophisticated approach to protecting long-term cognitive resilience before significant decline occurs

The people most frightened by cogntiive decline are often the very people others still perceive as fnnctioning well.

A Different Way of Thinking About Cognitive Health

Traditional neurologic and memory-care systems play an essential role in diagnosing and managing established disease.

But many adults sense that something is changing long before a formal diagnosis is ever made.

The modern brain exists under enormous physiologic pressure:
metabolic dysfunction, chronic inflammation, vascular strain, sleep disruption, psychiatric burden, sedentary living, chronic stress, hormonal shifts, social isolation, nutritional depletion, and the cumulative demands of modern life itself.

These systems do not operate independently.

They interact continuously over time, shaping resilience, adaptability, cognitive stamina, and long-term brain health.

brainGuard premier approaches cognition through this broader systems-based lens, integrating:

BrainGuard Premier evaluates and addresses the biologic and lifestyle systems most closely associated with cognitive resilience & long-term brain health–including metabolism, vascular health, inflammation, sleep and circadian disruption, hormonal and psychiatric contributors, medicationsstress physiology, body composition, cognitive performance, executive function, neuroplasticity, physical resilience, and social engagement.

For some individuals, this may also include precision nutrition strategies, cognitive training, longitudinal metabolic and cognitive tracking, structured exercise protocols, and carefully selected neurostimulation or photobiomodulation approaches.

All recommedations are individualized, prioritized, and medically guided.

Because sophistical medicine should create clarity.    It should turn the light back on.

Designed for adults and families seeking a highly personalized physician-guided approach to long-term cognitive health.

We help you turn that light back on.

The goal is not to overwhelm people with endless testing or optimization theater

The goal is to understand the pressures acting upon the brain early enough to intervene thoughtfully, strategically, and intelligently.

Before you go any further, let me orient you.

What Touchpoints180 BrainGuard Premier Is — and What It Is Not

Brainguard premier is a highly personalized physician-guided program designed for individuals seeking a more proactive and comprhensive approach to long-term cognitive health

It is not a passive “watch and wait” model.

It is not a protocol.

And it is not a wellness gimmick approach built around endless supplements, trendy optimization language, or exaggerated promises.

The goal is not to overwhelm you with endless interventions.

At its core, the goal of this work is to understand and identify meaningful contributors to cognitive vulnerability, prioritize them intelligently, and build a structured strategy designed to preserve resilience, function, independence, and quality of life over time.

Participation is limited. Not all individuals are appropriate candidates.

This work is about more than memory

The greatest fear for many people is not simply forgetting. It is the fear of slowly becoming less capable in a life that asks so much of them.

This work is about preserving clarity, confidence, autonomy, judgment, engagement, identity, and the ability to remain fully present in your own life for as long as possible.

And it is rarely only about the individual.

A spouse quietly begins carrying more invisible cognitive load behind the scenes. Adult children start monitoring finances remotely. Someone who once felt intellectually confident gradually withdraws socially out of fear that others are beginning to notice changes too.

Many families spend years navigating these realities alone before anyone offers them a coherent framework.

At Touchpoints180, we believe people deserve more than passive reassurance and fragmented advice.

You deserve thoughtful guidance.

A strategy

And a physician-led framework capable of helping them act earlier and more intelligently.

We don’t hand you a protocol and send you on your way. We teach you how to think about your health—     so progress is sustainable and confidence replaces uncertainty.

So what dose this look like in real life?

How Touchpoints180 Works

We don’t treat symptoms in isolation. We evaluate the biological systems that shape how you think, feel, and heal.

The Framework

Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, we evaluate the biological foundations: metabolism, mitochondrial function, blood sugar regulation, hormones, sleep, and stress response.

We then work with you to rebuild stability from the inside-out. We use personalized nutrition, lifestyle design, medical oversight, and education so you understand what your body is doing and why.

The Goal

You don't just feel better — you understand why.

When energy is restored at the cellular level, clarity steadies, mood stabilizes, and resilience returns.

Who Finds Their Way Here

People with mood and anxiety concerns. Those navigating brain fog, fatigue, and inflammatory conditions. Individuals who’ve been told “your labs are normal” while their body says something else.

What they all share: a system that's lost flexibility, and the desire to restore it.

There was a gap between what people were told – and what their bodies were showing.

Meet Lori Calabrese, MD

Dr. Lori Calabrese is a board-certified psychiatrist whose nationally and internationally recognized work in metabolic psychiatry and metabolic health has reshaped how we understand brain-body regulation.

Educated at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and trained at Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Calabrese spent decades working with people who had tried everything — yet still felt unwell. Over time, a pattern became impossible to ignore.

Symptoms were being treated.

The underlying story was never explained.

When metabolism falters, regulation follows — in mood, cognition, energy, and resilience.

I became interested in cognitive decline through the same lens that transformed my work in psychiatry: the realization that many chronic brain-based symptoms are deeply connected to the health of the body systems supporting the brain itself.

My work has increasingly focused on the emerging science of metabolic brain health and the powerful relationship between brain energy, systemic health, and cognitive function.

Over time, I found myself asking a deeper question:

What if many brains are struggling not because they are irreversibly broken, but because the biological environment supporting them has become overwhelmed?

That question fundamentally changed the direction of my work.

As I cared for individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, burnout, brain fog, memory concerns, and cognitive changes, I began to see recurring patterns beneath the surface — inflammation, disrupted metabolism, poor sleep, chronic stress, vascular changes, toxic exposures, trauma, isolation, and lifestyle factors that quietly erode the brain’s resilience over time.

I became increasingly convinced that true cognitive health requires us to look beyond symptoms alone and begin restoring the foundational systems that allow the brain to heal, adapt, and function optimally.

That search ultimately led me to the Bredesen Protocol and to a deeper integration of metabolic medicine, neuroscience, precision nutrition, lifestyle medicine, and systems-based approaches to cognitive restoration and prevention.

My interest in cognitive decline is also deeply personal. I have witnessed the suffering that cognitive decline can bring within my own family, and that experience profoundly shaped both my mission and my sense of urgency around brain health. I do not simply teach these principles professionally — I live them personally with the people I love most. The same strategies I encourage you to explore are the strategies I strive to integrate into my own life and family: protecting sleep and circadian rhythms, reducing inflammation, supporting movement and stress resilience, preserving purpose and connection, and creating the healthiest possible environment for long-term cognitive vitality.

I am deeply passionate about helping people proactively protect, preserve, and strengthen cognitive health for the future — whether you are beginning to notice changes yourself or hoping to preserve or restore the health and vitality of someone you love.

As the founder of Touchpoints180®, I have built a comprehensive, physician-led framework designed to help people optimize brain and body health through personalized metabolic and lifestyle interventions. Touchpoints180® was created to help people “do a 180” in their brain and body health through strategic, sustainable changes that support long-term vitality and resilience.

My approach focuses not only on preserving memory, but on improving the overall biological environment in which the brain functions and thrives.

Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all protocol, I work collaboratively to identify the unique metabolic, inflammatory, environmental, and lifestyle factors shaping your cognitive health trajectory. Through Touchpoints180®, you are supported within a deeply educational, restorative, and empowering environment focused on sustainable change and long-term brain health.

I also believe there is profound importance in addressing these changes early. The brain is remarkably adaptive, but the earlier we begin supporting the systems that influence cognitive health, the greater the opportunity to preserve function, resilience, independence, and quality of life over time.

My philosophy is rooted in partnership, curiosity, education, and hope. I believe the brain has far greater capacity for adaptation, resilience, and recovery than many people have been led to believe — especially when we begin addressing the foundational systems that support how the brain and body function together.

I believe that protecting the brain is ultimately about protecting the life, relationships, memories, identity, and future that make you — and the people you love — who you are.

Healing begins when people are taught how their own systems work.

Through Touchpoints180, Dr. Calabrese guides you through a learning-centered, precision, medically grounded process that restores signaling and communication between brain and body. The result is agency — the ability to recognize what is important, do it, and carry that knowledge forward.

This work is about clarity that lasts, stability that holds, and confidence that grows as knowledge replaces uncertainty

Frequently Asked Questions

Our Approach

Is BrainGuard Premier a treatment program for Alzheimer's disease?

No. BrainGuard Premier is a physician-led cognitive preservation and metabolic brain restoration program designed to identify and address potentially modifiable contributors to cognitive vulnerability and decline

=

Dr. Lori Calabrese is ReCODE 2.0 certified. BrainGuard Premier incorporates multidomain cognitive preservation principles where appropriate. However, this is not a standardized protocol-based program. It extends beyond that. The approach is highly individualized and integrates metabolic psychiatry, systems medicine, precision cognitive assessment, lifestyle intervention, and longitudinal physician-guided implementation into a broader framework tailored to each individual.

BrainGuard Premier is for adults noticing subtle cognitive or executive-function changes, individuals with mild cognitive impairment, adults with strong family history of dementia, or families seeking a more proactive and medically sophisticated approach to long-term brain health.

Many practices focus on adding interventions. Touchpoints180 focuses first on interpretation.

This work emphasizes understanding the system as a whole — how the brain and body are adapting, compensating, and communicating — before deciding what to change.

That difference may feel subtle at first, but it profoundly shapes the experience and the outcomes.

Touchpoints180 is not built around a single stage of illness or wellness.

Some people come because they are navigating active medical or neurologic conditions and want a clearer understanding of what is happening in their body — and how to support stability moving forward. Others come because they are recovering from illness, cancer treatment, or prolonged stress and want to rebuild resilience with intention. Still others are functioning well, but recognize early signals they don’t want to ignore.

For many, what brings them here is not a diagnosis, but a quiet fear — that weight gain, rising blood sugar, or changes in memory and focus may be pointing in the wrong direction, and that waiting without understanding could allow those patterns to deepen

What unites these paths is not where someone starts, but how the system is approached.

This work focuses on understanding how metabolism, inflammation, and energy regulation shape brain and body function over time — whether the goal is prevention, recovery, or long-term optimization. When the system is understood clearly, people can make decisions that are appropriate for their stage, their risks, and their future.

Touchpoints180 overlaps with functional medicine, but it is not driven by protocols, supplement stacks, or trends.

The work here is centered on systems-level interpretation of complex changes in your brain, body, and functioning — and investigating the complex underlying drivers of to create a precision medicine approach to address these with structure, sequence, and physician-guided supervision.

This is not a quick fix.

Restoring metabolic and neurologic stability happens over time, as the system relearns how to regulate energy, inflammation, and stress, and it is different for everyone. Many people notice meaningful shifts along the way, but the deeper goal is durable change long-term resilience, and flourishing — not just short-term symptom relief.

A Discovery Call is designed to help you explore that question.

It’s a focused conversation to understand the approach, see whether this framework aligns with how you think about your health and your future, and to determine if you are a candidate to work with us.

Not necessarily. Medical evaluation and treatment are provided in accordance with state licensure requirements.

Touchpoints180 also offers educational, consultative, and programmatic services that are available more broadly and do not establish a physician–patient relationship. This allows people outside of Connecticut, including international participants, to engage meaningfully with the framework while preserving clinical integrity.

ReCODE, or ReCODE 2.0, is a research-based framework developed to address cognitive decline by identifying and correcting the metabolic, inflammatory, hormonal, and lifestyle factors that affect brain function over time.

At Touchpoints180, ReCODE 2.0 and PreCODE are not offered as standalone protocols or checklists. They are integrated into a broader metabolic brain–body framework that emphasizes understanding, regulation, and long-term resilience — not just cognitive scores or short-term gains.

For some individuals, ReCODE provides a structured lens for organizing data and tracking progress. For others, the same principles are applied without formally entering a ReCODE pathway. What matters most is not the label, but whether the underlying brain biology is being understood and supported, and addressed comprehensively.

A Different Way Forward Is Possible

When the systems that govern metabolism, inflammation, and regulation begin to stabilize, the brain and body begin responding together.

Energy becomes more reliable. Thinking feels clearer. Mood steadies. Health no longer feels fragile or unpredictable.

This isn’t about pushing through or trying harder. It’s about understanding how your body works — and learning how to support it so resilience can return.

At Touchpoints180, we don’t rush that process. We take the time to listen, to evaluate what’s happening beneath the surface, and to help you decide what the next right step looks like for you.

When the system is no longer struggling to compensate, people don’t just feel better — they regain the capacity to build, plan, and live forward with confidence.

You don’t need a quick fix. You need clarity.

What's a Discovery Call?

A conversation — not a commitment. It’s a chance to ask questions, understand the approach, and explore
whether this work aligns with your goals and your life. If it does, we’ll talk about what moving forward could
look like. If it doesn’t, you’ll still leave with a clearer framework for thinking about your health.

Either way, you’ll leave better informed.

You were made to function with clarity, energy, and resilience.

Sometimes the path forward isn’t about adding more — it’s about restoring what was always meant to work together.
