Our Story

The Book

Work With Us

Matt was spreading and he knew it. No, not spreading fertilizer, but spreading in size. His middle was expanding… to the point he was shaped like a big block. He’d been a body builder years ago, but life, his wife’s illnesses, the stress of a toxic environment at work, demands on his time… All of it had crowded those workouts from his life. And with his sedentary lifestyle, and long hours at his desk, his muscle was disappearing under layers of something else. Ok, he admitted it…it was fat. It was humiliating to even think it. But this middle-aged weight gain was the tip of the iceberg. His wife took his blood pressure occasionally and it was always higher, quite a bit in fact, than it had been before. Matt would soon ask if you can reverse metabolic syndrome, but for now, he was in denial.

Accelerating Symptoms

He’d always had some GI problems, but they had been manageable. Lactose intolerance, bouts of constipation or diarrhea, but it was never severe enough to interfere with his life. Now, however, flareups made it hard to be at work, hard to produce at times, and diarrhea and abdominal pain often plagued him all through the day.

He hated what he saw when he looked in the mirror, so he just avoided mirrors. He didn’t have the time or the band width to do anything about all this…like even see a doctor. Anyway, his bowels were his own business.

Still, after his wife went to bed at night, he decompressed. Played a computer game, devoured potato chips, sometimes tossed a frozen pizza in the oven. And his waist just kept spreading.

Finally, following a couple glasses of Jack Daniels, he’d let down enough to go to bed. Then, after a fitful night, he’d wake in the morning and start it all again.

Discouragement and Depression

What had happened to his life? Why try so hard for a better life for your family when everything is disheartening, hopeless, and futile?

And the worse he felt about it all, the worse his abdominal pain became. The worse his sleep apnea. And his chronic fatigue. And let’s not even talk about the horrific, confusing brain fog.

Signs of Type 2 Diabetes

Plus, there was his thirst…it was growing just like his belt size. He was always thirsty, and carried a bottle of water around with him, constantly sipping during conversations, and at his desk. Not surprisingly, he also had to pee a lot more often than he used to. But, he never thought to ask if you can reverse metabolic syndrome.

Sometimes, like after climbing stairs, he could feel his throbbing heartbeat in his neck …and ears. He wondered if that was a sign of something wrong…

Matt’s feelings of failure in life rose up and loomed over him. He’d certainly had hopes and dreams but they’d been crushed by the harsh realities of his life. He felt professionally impotent, mentally inadequate, and increasingly insignificant. All he could do was endure the work days and come home to try to support his wife until she fell asleep each night. He was doing his best. But it wasn’t enough.

An Accident Opens Doors

Then one day, adding insult to injury, Matt stumbled stepping up on a curb and splattered on the sidewalk. Thankfully his arms and legs were ok, but he broke two fingers. He went to an urgent care to have them splinted. They took his blood pressure and it was way too high. 175/101. His heart rate was 96.

He was shocked. His B/P used to be 115/78 and his heart rate was about 74. What had happened to him since then??

They set his broken fingers and advised him to make an appointment with his PCP right away.

Matt almost never went to the doctor unless he needed stitches. He hadn’t seen him in years. But he begrudgingly complied and made an appointment.

His PCP Helps Matt Face Facts

As expected, his doctor was alarmed at his weight gain and his pulse and blood pressure. He explained to Matt that at his age he was no longer bullet proof. That his age combined with his weight and blood pressure put him at risk for cardiovascular problems like heart attack and stroke, Type 2 diabetes, kidney and liver damage, and other things.

“Matt, this is metabolic syndrome, and it can be deadly.”

He asked about his alcohol intake, his exercise, and his diet. It was becoming more embarrassing by the minute. This is why I never come here, he thought.

“I need to level with you, Matt. The stresses of life can build and we lose our grip. We fall into a cycle of enduring, ignoring, and numbing. You’re not alone… You can let midlife sweep you away with resentment, regret, and numbing. Or you can face that if you want your life to be better going forward, you have to make changes now.

“Bottom line it’s your choice. But know that most of humanity at your age is in the same shoes you are.

“Trying to do it all yourself can feel like trying to climb Everest in a day, and you can feel defeated before you start. But I highly recommend an innovative program not far from here with a metabolic psychiatrist who’s seeing remarkable results. I really encourage you to call her. My own brother was in a situation a lot like yours, and in a few months he turned himself completely around by following her program.

She calls it ‘doing a 180.’”

He wrote on the back of his card, Touchpoints180.org

“I’d like to see you back here in the office in 3 months, to see how you’re doing.”

Sobering Reality Check

Matt stashed the card in his pocket. When he got to his car, he sat a few moments, reflecting on what his doctor had said. It was a blow, but lots of food for thought. He knew he could ignore it all, and go about his business. But at what cost?

Would ignoring all this shorten his life? Would it result in fallout that impaired his life’s quality?

Matt didn’t want to face the facts about his health, but something inside him realized this was more urgent than he had realized. He pulled the card from his pocket, stared at the site his doctor had scrawled on the back…and took a deep breath.

Then, he pulled up the website on his phone, to see what this “program” was. Touchpoints180™ ….hmmmm.

Touchpoints180™

As he browsed the website, he could see that this doctor seemed to be a metabolic specialist, and had developed a multi-faceted program for resetting metabolism.

Ok, he thought, I wonder if you can reverse metabolic syndrome. I don’t know much about this, but maybe she does.

He kept reading to learn more about what this was. There were videos. He put his phone down so he could drive home and watch them.

Once home, he watched the first video, then moved on to another and another. He was fascinated by what he heard. This information soaked in like water on dry ground..he’d never heard anything like this before. But it sounded real. Reliable. Definitely seemed to be based on science.

So he he googled for studies about the same thing. Reams of articles showed up, and he could see there were lots of current studies, and though he was no scientist, it sure seemed as though these studies supported the videos he was watching.

After a couple hours of searching reading, and watching, he decided to take a step. The website said to “Book a Discovery Call.” Ok… it sounded like a big commitment, but his doctor’s words were echoing through his mind. He was going to have to make a real commitment to something. Because something had to give. Change was necessary.

So he followed the link and booked a discovery call.

Touchpoints180™ Shows You Can Reverse Metabolic Syndrome

Little did he know that the call would mark a U-turn in his life. Information is power, as they say, and the information that flooded his world over the next days and weeks, impacted the way he looked at everything. He could see that he could reverse metabolic syndrome, and it was on its way out.

Once he had learned a better, more informed perspective, he couldn’t “unsee” it. Each piece of new knowledge influenced his decisions, from the way he went to sleep, the way he woke up, the way he ate, to the way he moved…even the way he looked at his reactions to people and situations.

It was profound.

His “devil may care” attitude was transforming into an intentional, wise, purposeful approach to everything in his life… and his life was actually improving. He felt better, he listened better, he had more patience, more energy, more flexibility mentally and physically.

His first thoughts when his PCP had confronted him, were that he just needed to go to the gym regularly and diet. It was about doing things that were hard, and depriving himself. (Of course he’d been avoiding it!)  But this…well it was nothing like that.

Sophisticated Targeted Treatment Approach

Touchpoints180™ was  customized… designed around him personally… and what his own body and emotions needed to thrive. This was no cookie cutter approach like he’d always found at the gym or with personal trainers.

They did lab work, checking things his PCP didn’t usually check, then showing him how to respond to his lab results to improve them. There was no dieting. What???

None. No dieting… but new important information about the foods he could choose to eat to help him feel better, function better, think better, and improve his relationships with himself and with others. And why it worked.

Matt was learning. He felt at times like he was working on an advanced degree…but there was no drudgery in it. He had a voracious appetite to learn more.

When his results plateaued, he had the freedom to ask for help, and he got it. Targeted, science-based help. And, time and again, those tweaks did get him back on track.

Eye Opening Revelation

He hadn’t known he had a sugar addiction until it was gone. But now, there were no cravings for his favorite cookies to snack on, or French fries with hamburgers, or frequent ice cream sundaes… his guilty pleasure. He was realizing how he’d unconsciously followed his urges and developed this metabolic syndrome that had run roughshod over his health.

But it went deeper than that. Those 3 frozen pizzas that were part of every trip to the grocery store didn’t seem appealing anymore. He ignored them, and turned his attention to fresh produce, beef, salmon, and chicken. Cheese made his mouth water, and  grass fed butter. Just such a turn around. It was like he was an observer, watching his body lean toward foods that really nourished him.

And he knew that was the result of all he’d learned about what his body and brain needed to thrive.

The activities offered through Touchpoints180™ were also brightening his outlook. He looked forward to the nature walks; the pleasant and light-hearted conversations which were such a contrast to his high pressure job.

You Can Reverse Metabolic Syndrome from the Inside Out

It developed into an entire lifestyle change, and it was changing him from the inside out. Instead of charging angrily through life because of the pressure he felt, resenting how much his job demanded but driven to give whatever it took to be promoted and increase his income…he was more relaxed, contributing more at work because his mind was so clear and working so much better. These changes were subtle, but very real. Reversing metabolic syndrome included more than just his belt size.

And the proof was not only in how much better he was feeling already, but in the lab work his doctor did after 3 months in Touchpoints180™.  His B/P was already considerably lower, and his heart rate had improved. Better still, his A1C had decreased a bit, showing that already the changes he had made were making a difference. His PCP had told him he was prediabetic, but he could see that all his labs would continue to improve, and he could get out of this prediabetic range. He saw how important it was to just be consistent with all the steps he was taking with Touchpoints180™.

Then, at his six month visit with his PCP, his doctor congratulated him on his progress. He’d lost 28 lbs already, and was starting to build muscle again. His B/P had come down more, along with his heart rate, and his A1C had inched even lower. This metabolic syndrome situation was doing a full U-turn, and not a day too soon.

Not Just Physically, But Mentally and Emotionally

But what was even more important to Matt were his relationships at home and at work…the way they’d improved, become more fulfilling. He had patience, and felt relaxed. His coworkers wondered what had happened… but they liked it. Matt loved how clear his mind was, how much more focused he was when he wanted to be, and how much more balanced his life had become. He left work…at work. At home, he focused on his family and his own health.

He and his wife had the time and energy to nurture more friendships and activities they enjoyed.

And for Matt, well, he had come to realize he’d found a far better way to LIVE, to thrive, and to enjoy his best possible life for as long as he had on this planet. His wife was so inspired by the changes in her husband, she too joined Touchpoints180™ and was enjoying more and more improvement in her symptoms.

Over time, they’d both become truly grateful that he’d broken his fingers that day, because it had led them to discover liberating and empowered living.
